Biography

Ms. Mahoney joined Battelle in 1989. Her responsibilities have included salt solubility modeling to support waste retrieval, determination of the inventories of flammable gases in Hanford tank waste, design studies of fluid mixing in waste tanks, and nuclear facility safety studies. Her academic training focused on heat and mass transfer in porous media; her thesis project was a computer model of hydrogen absorption and desorption from a bed of metal hydride powder. Before joining Battelle, Ms. Mahoney spent five years analyzing the impacts of electric power utilities, industrial facilities, and urban air quality management programs on ambient concentrations of ozone, other criteria pollutants, and toxic chemicals. At Battelle, her work has centered on characterizing tank waste, modeling the behavior of particle-fluid systems, and estimating the radioactive and hazardous releases from nuclear facilities during accidents and planned operations.
